MEETING

President Shirley opened our meeting with thanks to the Father for the enthusiasm planted in our human hearts; help us keep it alive and vital. Ed Romeo led the Pledge of Allegiance.

ANNOUNCEMENTS –

Ed Romeo highlighted the upcoming rummage sale at the Friends of Oasis on Oct 6 and 7th. Come on the 5th to organize the sale process. Shirley reported that Jerry Nininger is settling in their new home in Texas and hopes to come back for next year’s Field of Honor. Shirley performed a formal induction of new member Chuck Seven, providing him a membership pin and welcoming him to become involved with the Club. Bob Wood presented the random District football winnings to Roy Shlemon (second time) and to our own club ($50 each). Mike Gertner presented our own skilled football winnings with Mitch winning low man, and five players tied in first place with 13 right. Shirley Lashmett won $31, and Leo Fracalosy got three bucks. Leo described the excellent interaction with Killy brook school presentation of the Buddy Bench. Their thank note is displayed.

PROGRAM –

Was the Oasis Senior Center Strummers and Dancers, led by Dr. Mike Ekinaka. They performed 13 pieces, beginning with Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America”. Then one about Lahaina, “That’s where You’ll Find Me Down by the Seaside”, followed by “Margaritaville”, “In a Little Hula Heaven”, “Red Sails in the Sunset”, “Half Hawaii, My Heart Will Be”, “I Wanna Go Home”. Then one from 1934 Independence Day, “I Wanna Go Back to My Little Grass Shack”, followed by “Kamakal, White Sandy Beach”, “Lovely Hands” hula, “Twenty-six Miles” across the sea is the place to be (Catalina), and concluding with Harry Owens’ song, “Give Me Your Heart, Aloha.” This was a great combination of singing and dancing, showing four of the five dancers in columns below.
